Have you ever returned home from work and found your beloved pup has wrecked up the place? A torn up sofa, a pee-soaked carpet, a neighbourly complaint that they heard nothing but howlong all day?
If any of these things have ever happened to you then they are highly unfortunate, but let’s face it: our lovely little puppies simply don’t know much better without the proper training!
They really do think that once you’ve walked out the door you’ve walked out for good, and this leads to all kinds of rowdy behaviour brought on by one simple emotion we too share with our pups: stress.
But it doesn’t have to be this way. After all, you’ve already taken the time to compare dog insurance online – why not take the time to ensure they don’t wreck up the place when you can’t be there to keep an eye on them?
There are numerous ways in which you can prevent your pup from causing too many problems in the home. The most important thing is to be aware of their habits: what time of the day do they usually need to pee? When do they like to go outside for a run around? How old are they and can they be left alone for a long time?
By covering these bases, and a few other important tips listed below, you can make a much more comfortable home situation for your pooch and yourself even when you can’t be there to keep them company.
Check out the following to create such a healthy situation:
⦁ Be aware of their bladder: How long does ⦁ your doggo usually hold their bladder whilst you’re away? This might be the best place to start when it comes to knowing whether to spend less time away from home or get someone in to let them out occasionally!
⦁ How old is your doggo: If your doggy is quite old, then it may be a good idea not to leave them alone for too long. However, an older dog that doesn’t mind a good day sleep should be fine being left alone for longer.
⦁ Ensure they are comfortable: Place some solo activities or enrichment toys around the house for when you’re not at home. Staple and tape-free cardboard boxes, puzzle games and chew items are great for keeping your doggo occupied and to stop them from wrecking up the place in your absence.
⦁ Take them out before you take off: You might even want to try wearing out your dog before you head off so that they can be nice and tired throughout the day. So, before taking off for a day’s work, why not take them for their morning walk? It’s a great way for you to start the day, too, and it will go a long way to ensuring they don’t wreck the place once you’re out.
Regardless, your pupper really shouldn’t be left alone for more than six hours in one day as this goes a long way to ensuring their mental and physical wellbeing!
Your pup is a social creature, and they require regular guidance and interaction with humans and other puppies. So, if you can’t be there for them at all hours of the day, it might be a good idea to enlist a friend or a trusted professional who can help them through the more boring hours of the day.
After all, there is nothing more frustrating than coming home and finding a brand new leather sofa torn to shreds because your pooch got stressed out after an eight hour absence!
