  • Temperature – The main difference between a latte and a frappe is the temperature which majorly affects the texture of both drinks. A frappe is a cold blended drink whereas lattes come iced but classically served hot. Lattes require espresso shots to be pulled but the coffee in frappes is pre-made and added to the blender.

  • Ingredients – In frappes, room temperature coffee is used because it keeps the ice from melting before being blended. To give a thicker consistency, a dairy product with high-fat content goes into a frappe. In contrast, lattes can be made with skim milk or sometimes even milk alternatives.
  • Texture and Taste – A frappe’s texture is quite thicker and creamier than latte. Known to be smoother than frappes, lattes have a much different texture profile than that of frappes. As far as taste is concerned, a frappe will be sweeter than a latte due to the added syrup. Lattes will give you a more intense coffee flavor than a frappe due to the added water in the form of ice and use of intense espresso instead of instant coffee.
  • Caffeine Level – Lattes have slightly higher caffeine content than frappes.
