About Soy sauce

Soy Sauce is the paste of fermented soybeans. Soy Sauce is also known as soy. It was found 3000 years ago in China. In appearance, Soy sauce is dark-colored and has a water-like consistency. The taste of soy sauce is salty as salt is added at the time of fermentation. Like other Indian spices, you can use sauce directly on the food to enhance the taste. About Teriyaki Sauce

Teriyaki sauce is a type of soy sauce.  For making Teriyaki Sauce, the base ingredient which is used is soy sauce. After adding soy sauce, other ingredients are added to it and the taste and texture vary depending on these ingredients. In appearance, Teriyaki Sauce is orange copperish colored and has a thick consistency. In Japan, Teriyaki is a kind of cooking style in which the food is glazed, broiled, and grilled. The same method is used while making Teriyaki Sauce which is done with the ingredients of soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. 

Due to adding brown sugar in its preparation, it tastes sweet. To enhance its taste and appearance some countries also use mirin or wine. Teriyaki sauce can be used for chicken wings or dip.

Main Differences between Soy Sauce and Teriyaki Sauce

  • Soy sauce originated 3000 years ago in China for pickling fish while teriyaki sauce is a type of soy sauce that has added ingredients and originated in the 17th century in Japan and was used for glazing broil. 
  • The main ingredients of soy sauce are roasted and fermented Soybeans and sometimes they are also added with wheat or small amounts of brown sugar. On the other hand, when ingredients like sugar or vegetables are added to soy sauce then it is used to make teriyaki sauce. So the main ingredients of teriyaki sauce include soy sauce and added ingredients. 
  • Soy sauce is generally salty whereas teriyaki sauce is sweet due to added sugar. However, the taste of teriyaki sauce can vary depending on the added ingredients.
  • Teriyaki sauce is lighter than the dark-colored soy sauce and has an almost coppery color or orange. However, this color may also depend on added ingredients. On the other hand, soy sauce is always dark-colored.
  • The consistency of soy sauce is rather watery whereas teriyaki sauce has a thick consistency.
  • Soy sauce is popularly used in Asian cuisine as an additive but not as a cooking agent whereas teriyaki sauce is used as a cooking agent.
