Before the pandemic hits, we all have our own busy worlds. But everything turns upside down, a 360 degrees turn around that affects each and every single life not only in the UK but in the whole wide world as well. It affects the economy, the livelihood, the household, and the relationships. It affects almost every aspect of our lives.
How Pandemic Affects Human Relationships
A lot of things happen because of the pandemic that affects human relationships. All our actions suddenly become restricted. No more social gatherings, no more unlimited mall tours, no more face-to-face classes, skeletal work schedules are implemented, and all our actions become limited.
Family Relationships – Family and relative bondings become limited. No more visitations that are used to do when there are occasions and special events. Calls and personal messages were now the major means of communication and celebrations were often done now through video calls.
On the other hand, if there’s one good thing that this pandemic has brought us, is the opportunity that we spent a lot more time with our immediate family members considering the fact that classes were done online and parents were able to have worked at home set up.
Friends and Colleagues – Since social gatherings become restricted because of the pandemic, we spend less time with our friends and colleagues. No more holiday outings and no more eating out after work hours.
Good old times were suddenly missed and the face-to-face talks were replaced by online chats and interactions.
There are companies that offer work from home set up to lessen the chance of being exposed to many people while commuting to work. Board and team meetings suddenly become zoom and google meet meetings.
Classmates and Teachers – Children’s and young adults’ health were at risk if face-to-face classes were implemented in the middle of the crisis. Face-to-face classes were introduced. Blended learnings were implemented.
No more physical activities are done during physical education classes. No more extracurricular activities and school programs that develop and improve students’ skills and abilities.
Students miss their teachers and vice versa but life must go on and just hoping that things will be okay soon.
Partners and Marital Relationship – Because of the global crisis, many companies declare bankruptcy and a lot of employees become jobless all of a sudden. There are lots of couples who got separated from each other because of financial problems and depression. Relationships were ruined, families were broken, and misunderstandings are everywhere.
Pandemic affects human relationships in many ways. Physical and mental health were highly affected. A lot of people suffer from anxiety and depression which affects the way people think and treat other people.
The hugs and kisses were replaced by a simple hi and hello because they were not advisable as of the moment since viruses can be transmitted through those gestures. The sweet smiles we greet were now covered by the face masks that we need to wear while outside our home.
A lot of things may change or have changed but we should not let this pandemic affect our relationships negatively with other people and especially with our loved ones. Instead, let us all face these challenges altogether. We may not be able to do it physically but at heart, we know that we will face this and we will fight as one.
