In this blog we are going to tell you about Difference between Quiche and Frittata, so read this blog carefully to get the complete information.

Quiche and Frittata are two dishes that are a lot more similar to each other. This is the reason most people get confused and think that they are the same. Both the dishes are round and are egg-based brunch staples. But there are a significant number of differences that make the two egg dishes apart from each other. In this article, we will focus on what Quiche and Frittata are and what are the differences between them so that you can identify them easily.

What is Quiche?

A Quiche is a smooth and rich combination of eggs, cream, and cheese. It is usually combined with meat and vegetables and then baked in a pastry shell. Generally, you can think Quiche is a dish that would be made if a custard and savory pie had a baby. It is considered a French dish but egg and cream pastries had been enjoyed in England in the 14th century and even in Italy in the 13th century. Quiche Lorraine is a variant of Quiche that is known as a French dish and is named after the Lorraine region in France. This is popularly served at special occasions and events. It is prepared by using eggs, cream, and lardons. Modern versions of the dish utilize cheddar cheese and bacon.

What is Frittata?

The most famous English chef and television presenter Delia has once cooked a dish called Frittata. This is an Italian version of an open-face omelet. Like Quiche is a cross between a custard and a savory pie, similarly, Frittata is a cross between a Quiche and an Omelet. Frittata is usually prepared by using eggs, cream, different meats and vegetables, and cheese. The dish is typically made in a skillet. In the Italian language, Frittata means ‘fried’. The dish is easy to prepare and is liked by a lot of people. It utilizes fewer dairy products in comparison to quiche.

Main Differences between Quiche and Frittata

Three major differences between Quiche and Frittata make the dishes different from each other which are as follows:

The crust of the dishes

Perhaps the main difference between Quiche and Frittata is that a Quiche is baked slowly in a savory pie crust whereas Frittata is crustless and is cooked more quickly. The reason behind this is that the crust adds a certain amount of stability and this makes quiche more stable and can be handled with more cream in comparison to a frittata.

The ratio of ingredients used

Quiche is usually prepared with more dairy products like cream, milk, or half and half in comparison to Frittata. Most quiche recipes require about half a cup of dairy for every large egg used in the dish. On the other hand, a frittata is prepared with fewer dairy products. Like in frittatas, if you are using even a little dairy product then you will use it for every 6 large eggs. It adds no more than about one-fourth cup of full-fat dairy products like sour cream or heavy cream.

Method of cooking

Frittata is cooked on the stove while Quiche is prepared in the oven. Traditionally, frittatas were cooked in a skillet and then sometimes placed in the oven to complete the procedure. On the other hand, Quiches are baked in a pie pan. However, both the dishes are easy to prepare but Quiches require slightly more effort than a frittata.

Conclusion

There are a lot of factors that should be considered when deciding which dish is better for you. For example, if you are looking for a quick breakfast dish then Quiche would be the most preferred choice. But if you are looking for an appetizer or a dish that can be made before and then can be taken by reheating then Frittata suits the need best. However, both the dishes require almost the same ingredients and look the same in appearance also, this is the reason people get confused. But with the above-mentioned differences, you can easily identify the difference between them. But you should try consuming both the dishes so that you can know which you liked the most. We hope that this article was helpful and has cleared all your doubts related to the two terms.
