Green figs also belong to the same family as mulberry. However, they are much tastier than black figs and are also healthier too. Green figs originated in Egypt or Arabia. They obtained their green color when ripened from a pink or pale green which gradually changes into green fig fruits. These fruits are known to be rich in calcium, antioxidants, potassium, and dietary fibers and thus help in preventing diseases such as cancer and tumor. Green figs are also juicier in comparison to Black Figs and this is the reason they are tastier than black figs. These fruits are also bigger than black figs. These fruits are sweeter in comparison to other varieties of figs. These fruits are more healthy when taken in dried form and are available in large quantities, especially during summer. These fruits are also used in desserts to enhance the taste. They are sometimes used as an alternative for brown Turkey. They are considered to have a long shelf life and are better when eaten after they are harvested quickly. These fruits are used as dry fruits also as they are the best source of calcium and fiber. The most commonly used green fig is also known as the Adriatic fig which is used for making bars and candies.

Major Differences between Black and Green Figs

The following are the major differences between black and green figs as mentioned below: 

  • The main difference between Black and Green Figs is their place of origin as Black figs originated in the United States whereas green figs originated in Egypt or Arabia. 
  • Black figs are rich in calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, and carbohydrates whereas green figs are rich in calcium, iron, and zinc. 
  • Black figs are best used for maintaining blood sugar levels and weight loss whereas Green Figs are best used for preventing cancer and tumor from the body and also for improving the immune system. 
  • Black figs contain high sugar content and are tastier but Green figs are sweeter in comparison to Black figs and are pulpier also. 
  • Black figs are usually available in medium size whereas Green figs are bigger in size. Both the fruits help in balancing the diet and weight loss. However, green figs are preferred for desserts and sweets but black figs are not.
